About Us
History
ramé-hart was founded in 1961 by Ralph Nussbaum, George Meyer, and John Hertz. The company name was formed from the founders' names, and the business began as a specialty machine shop known for precision and high quality machining.
Early on, the team looked for a proprietary product line that matched its machining expertise. After meeting with Dr. William Zisman and his associates at the Naval Research Laboratory in Washington, DC, ramé-hart began producing and selling the NRL Goniometer designed by Dr. Zisman. That decision helped establish a growing instrument line and shaped the company's future in surface science.
To learn more about Dr. Zisman, his life, accomplishments, and contributions to surface science, read this article (reprinted with permission).
By 1969, ramé-hart was selling more than 20 instruments per year and offered six accessories. Through the following decades, the company expanded its reputation as a leader in contact angle instrumentation while continuing to design new accessories and options.

By the 1990s, computerization transformed the product line from microscope-based systems into camera- and software-driven tools. In 2004, the business restructured and the instrument line became ramé-hart instrument co.
Today we offer a broad family of software-driven instruments together with a wide range of accessories and options. We are passionate about surface science and excited about the future of this field. Our promise is to support you with world-class instruments, top-tier customer service, and competitive pricing.
