New Product - ramé-hart Modular Coaxial Needle

In March, we launched our latest innovation: the ramé-hart Modular Coaxial Needle. This cutting-edge design (p/n 100-10-MC-BASE) features an industry-standard Luer lock interface, enabling quick and effortless installation of both inner and outer needles. Unlike traditional coaxial needle assemblies, this modular system allows researchers to experiment with a wide range of needle gauges and lengths, including disposable needles, for greater flexibility, precision, and lower cost. The stainless steel body is designed for easy disassembly via a single threaded connection, simplifying cleaning and inner needle replacement. Standard female Luer inlets ensure broad compatibility, while optional Push-to-Connect fittings integrate seamlessly with the ramé-hart PTFE Tubing Kit. Each unit ships with an inner and outer needle of the customer’s desired gauge, with additional needles - both reusable and disposable - available. The ramé-hart Modular Coaxial Needle is in stock and ready to ship. To learn more, visit www.customspinnerets.com. For more pictures, visit this page and to place an order, this page.

Expanded Product Line - Prebuilt Circular Array

Due to the success and popularity of our ramé-hart Prebuilt Circular Spinneret Array Kit, p/n 100-10-PCA, we've added (3) additional sizes as follows:

  • p/n 100-10-CA10 with (10) outlets on a single 34mm circle

  • p/n 100-10-CA16 with (16) total outlets - (5) on a 17.2mm circle and (11) on a 37mm circle

  • p/n 100-10-CA20 with (20) total outlets - (7) on a 23.6mm circle and (13) on a 44mm circle

Each kit includes a two-part solid stainless steel body that can easily disassembled for cleaning and is sealed with an O-ring, (1) female Luer inlet, 10-20 male Luer outlets (depending on model), neoprene washers, bolts to secure the body and Allen key. Needles are also available in any size and length.

21 Ways our Coaxial Spinnerets are Used

Here’s a list of novel, new, and innovative applications for ramé-hart coaxial spinnerets, especially in the categories of electrospinning, bioprinting, and microfabrication. These applications take advantage of the core-shell structure and material customization that coaxial spinnerets enable:

Biomedical & Healthcare Applications

1. Targeted drug delivery systems – Core-shell nanofibers can encapsulate sensitive drugs in the core for controlled and localized release.

2. Wound dressings with dual functionality – Outer shell for barrier protection, inner core loaded with antibiotics or growth factors.

3. Tissue engineering – Mimicking extracellular matrix with controlled mechanical and biological properties. Electrospun nanofibers, for example, loaded with antimicrobial agents have proven useful in killing drug-resistant pathogens.1

4. Stem cell delivery systems – Providing a protective microenvironment in the core for live cells or growth factors. Damaged joints may be able to heal faster with 3D scaffolds made from small nanofibers that feature a time-release growth agent.2

5. Bioactive sutures – Sutures that slowly release healing agents or antibiotics.

Advanced Materials & Nanotechnology

6. Phase change materials for thermal management – Encapsulating phase-change substances like paraffin in fibers for smart textiles. Thermochromic (color-changing) coaxial nanofibers can be electrospun from liquid crystals.3

7. Self-healing materials – Core contains healing agents that are released upon material damage.

8. Sensors with embedded signal pathways – Shell as the structural material, core as conductive or responsive layer. Smart fibers can be added to products like bandages to track wound healing by detecting harmful chemicals.4

9. Photo- or electro-responsive fibers – Using a photoactive or piezoelectric material in the core.

10. Multifunctional filtration membranes – Dual layers with mechanical strength on the outside and catalytic or adsorptive function inside.

Chemical & Environmental Engineering

11. Catalyst immobilization – Embedding catalysts in the core while the shell controls diffusion and reaction rates.

12. Encapsulation of volatile chemicals – Preventing degradation or evaporation until triggered release.

13. Oil spill cleanup materials – Hydrophobic shell and absorbent or reactive core.

14. Water purification membranes – Active agents (e.g., silver nanoparticles) loaded in the core for antibacterial action.

15. Controlled-release fertilizers – Agricultural coatings where nutrients are in the core and biodegradable polymers form the shell.

Food & Cosmetics Industries

16. Flavor or fragrance encapsulation – Releasing agents over time in food, textiles, packaging, or skin-contact applications. In one case, essential oil was encapsulated within biodegradable nanofibers using a coaxial electrospinning technique demonstrating the potential of nanofibers in extending the shelf life of fruits by providing controlled release of the encapsulated volatile compound.5

17. Probiotic delivery systems – Protecting probiotics from stomach acid with pH-sensitive release in the intestine.

18. Nutrient stabilization in packaging – Fibers that release antioxidants or moisture scavengers.

Smart Textiles & Wearables

19. Energy-harvesting yarns – With piezoelectric or thermoelectric cores.

20. Moisture or chemical-sensing fibers – With sensor elements embedded in the core. In one case, dual sensors were imbedded a core-shell fiber that detects both oxygen and ammonia gases.6

21. Conductive fibers for wearable electronics – With insulating shell for durability and safety.
